Yogyakarta, July 16, 2026 – Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa officially opened the 2026 UMi People's Market series of activities at the Sasana Hinggil Dwi Abad, Yogyakarta Palace, on Thursday (July 16). At the same time, the Minister, along with the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, also symbolically handed over the Electric Pedicab Ecosystem (Bekalista) to beneficiaries in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province.
In his remarks, the Minister stated that the 2026 UMi People's Market is a crucial moment for realizing a shared commitment to promoting digitalization and modernization, while simultaneously preserving local culture by strengthening the ultra-micro (UMi) sector, particularly in transportation.
"Today, we see one example of community-based empowerment, Bekalista, where tradition is not a barrier to progress, but rather provides direction so that progress does not lose its identity. This is not a story about replacing old pedicabs with new ones, but rather about preserving an old icon by infusing it with new energy," he explained.
The Bekalista program itself embodies President Prabowo Subianto's directive to assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), preserve cultural heritage, and is part of efforts to accelerate the implementation of emission reductions (low emission zones) in the Malioboro area of Yogyakarta.
The development of the Bekalista ecosystem by the Ministry of Finance, along with relevant partners, is expected to support the modernization of pedicab transportation without abandoning its rich cultural values. The modernization program covers a total of 80 becak drivers in the Yogyakarta City administration and surrounding areas, all of whom have undergone a process of curation and factual verification.
"The Bekalista ecosystem is also comprehensively designed, not only providing new transportation units but also building an independent and sustainable support system on the ground. The development of the Bekalista ecosystem involves 100 percent local workers from Yogyakarta, consisting of professionals in manufacturing engineering, assembly, and electric vehicle electrical engineering, as well as vocational schools to strengthen the teaching factory," said the Minister of Finance.
To ensure smooth post-handover operations, this ecosystem is simultaneously equipped with a mobile workshop to mitigate technical disruptions and a network of 12 charging stations strategically placed along the beneficiaries' economic activity corridors. Additionally, eight spare batteries are provided to support Bekalista drivers experiencing technical difficulties during field operations.
To strengthen maintenance services for pedicab drivers, a Bekalista main workshop was established at SMK Negeri 3 Yogyakarta, which will strengthen the implementation of the teaching factory and also play a role in improving the quality of vocational education in Yogyakarta.
Previously, on the same occasion, Director General of Treasury Astera Primanto Bhakti explained that the implementation of the Bekalista ecosystem is projected to have a strategic impact on three main dimensions: increasing economic welfare and productivity, protecting the health and dignity of workers, and accelerating green tourism (eco-tourism).
"For Yogyakarta, Bekalista can enrich the tourism experience and encourage tourist spending on local products and services," he explained.

To ensure the program's sustainability, he continued, Bekalista is supported by three pillars: strengthening community governance through the Indonesian National Mobility Cooperative; independent asset maintenance through capacity building for local mechanics and facilitating mobile workshops; and information technology integration through digital transactions and the use of the JogjaKita platform to expand marketing and service access.

The 2026 UMi People's Market carries the theme "Resilient MSMEs, Pillars of the Economy," which is highly relevant to the real-world conditions of the Indonesian economy.
The 2026 UMi People's Market series of activities includes a bazaar showcasing MSME products with a total of 200 MSMEs assisted by PIP, the Ministry of Finance, Himbara, local governments, and others. In addition, various government/business entity services are also available, such as Kemenkeu Satu, Samsat, Regional Tax Payments, as well as public entertainment through integration with local traders/entrepreneurs who carry out their daily business in the South Square of the Yogyakarta Palace.
