Jakarta, July 15, 2026 Ministry of Finance – The Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) continues to strengthen its role in encouraging the development of palm oil research and innovation as an effort to increase the added value of this strategic national commodity. This commitment is realized through the holding of the 2026 Indonesian Palm Oil Research Week (PERISAI) on July 20–21, 2026, which will serve as a forum for disseminating research results and strengthening collaboration in palm oil research in Indonesia.
The Director of Downstream Sector Fund Distribution at BPDP, Mohammad Alfansyah, stated that the research funding support provided by BPDP for more than a decade has resulted in various innovations that not only support the development of plantation productivity but also encourage the birth of innovations that provide added value to the industry and society.
"Through PERISAI, we want to demonstrate that palm oil is not just about producing vegetable oil or biodiesel. Various research results supported by BPDP have produced innovations in the fields of food, health, renewable energy, biomaterials, and industrial engineering. This is proof that palm oil has enormous potential to support national development while increasing Indonesia's competitiveness at the global level," said Mohammad Alfansyah at the Media Briefing Road to the Indonesian Palm Oil Research Week (PERISAI) 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday (July 15).
He added that since the research funding program was launched, the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPDP) has supported hundreds of studies involving various universities and research institutions in Indonesia. These research results are continuously encouraged to not only remain as scientific publications but also be translated into technologies and products that provide real benefits to society and the business world. BPDP is also building an innovation ecosystem that brings together researchers, government, industry, business actors, investors, and smallholder farmers so that research results can be implemented more widely.
"PERISAI is not just a scientific forum, but a meeting place for researchers, government, industry, business actors, and investors so that research results can be applied widely, including by smallholder farmers," he explained.
On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Ratu Ayu Dewi Sartika, M.Sc., presented her research findings on the use of Red Palm Oil as a dietary supplement for pregnant women. According to Prof. Ratu Ayu, the research results demonstrate that palm oil has great potential as a raw material for functional foods that can contribute to improving public health.
"Palm oil has significant nutritional potential to support improvements in the community's nutritional status. Through continuous research, we can develop various food products that are not only safe but also provide broader health benefits," he explained.
In the energy sector, BPDP also supports research into the development of BENSA (Palm Oil Gasoline) technology based on Mixed Industrial Vegetable Oil (MIVO), presented by Dr. Ir. C.B. Rasrendra, S.T., M.T. This innovation opens up new opportunities for utilizing palm oil as a more environmentally friendly energy feedstock while increasing the added value of national palm oil commodities.
"BENSA is one example of how research results can open up new opportunities for palm oil utilization. Going forward, innovations like this are expected to strengthen national energy security while encouraging the growth of domestic resource-based industries," explained Dr. Rasrendra.
Carrying the theme "Shaping the Palm Oil Industry Ecosystem for a Sustainable Future," PERISAI 2026 will feature seminars, discussions, research exhibitions, business matching, innovation competitions, and collaboration forums involving government, academics, researchers, business actors, students, and investors.
Various research findings will be showcased in six main areas: bioenergy, environment, biomaterials, cultivation and post-harvest, food and health, and social, economic, management, market, and information technology.
Through PERISAI 2026, the Indonesian Palm Oil Development Agency (BPDP) hopes that the research results it has supported thus far can be utilized more widely by industry, government, academics, and smallholder farmers. Thus, research will not only generate new knowledge but also serve as a foundation for increasing productivity, creating added value, strengthening food and energy security, and sustainably enhancing the competitiveness of the Indonesian palm oil industry.
